The humpback anglerfish or blackdevil, Melanocetus johnsonii, is a deep-sea anglerfish in the family Melanocetidae, found in tropical to temperate parts of all oceans at depths of up to 2,000 meters .

The Blackdevil lives in the bathypelagic, marine, depth range 100 - 4500 m , usually 100 - 1500 m environment.

The Humpback Blackdevil is a soft-bodied fish that lacks scales and pelvic fins. It has a large head and mouth, with long pointed teeth. There is a short illicium with a bulbous esca on the snout. Live fish are black. More
