The scientific name of the Mandarin dogfish shark is C. barbifer. The body is grayish-brown on top, with a whitish underside. The two dorsal, or top, fins are approximately equal in size, with prominent whitish edges and a large, thick spine along the front edge. More

Cirrhigaleus australis is a member of the Mandarin dogfish group of squalid sharks which typically reach lengths of just a metre or so. The new species was previously believed to be an Australian population of the Mandarin dogfish, Cirrhigaleus barbifer. More
