Cinnamon Bittern - This is a small species at 38 cm length, with a short neck and longish bill. The male is uniformly cinnamon above and buff below. The female's back and crown are brown, and the juvenile is like the female but heavily streaked brown below.

 

Schrenck's Bittern - This is a small species at 38 cm in length, with a short neck, longish yellow bill and yellow legs. The male is uniformly chestnut above, and buff below and on the wing coverts. The female and juvenile are chestnut all over with white speckles above, and white streaks below. When in flight, it shows black flight feathers and tail.

Least Bittern - The Least Bittern is a small wading bird, the smallest heron found in the Americas.

 

Black Bittern - This is a fairly large species at 58 cm in length, with a longish neck and long yellow bill. The adult is uniformly black above, with yellow neck sides. It is whitish below, heavily streaked with brown. The juvenile is like the adult, but dark brown rather than black.

 

Stripe-backed Bittern - The Stripe-backed Bittern is a species of heron in the Ardeidae family. It is found in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, French Guiana, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, Uruguay, Venezuela, and possibly Ecuador. Its natural habitat is swamps.

Little Bittern - It is a very small bittern; at 27–36 cm in length, 40–58 cm wingspan and 60-150 g weight. The smallest specimens are perhaps the smallest herons on earth. It has a short neck, longish bill and buff underparts. The male's back and crown are black, and the wings are black with a large white patch on each wing. The female has a browner back and a buff-brown wing patch.

 

New Zealand Little Bittern - The New Zealand Little Bittern is an extinct and enigmatic species of heron in the Ardeidae family. It was endemic to New Zealand and was last recorded alive in the 1890s.

Yellow Bittern - This is a small species at 38cm length, with a short neck and longish bill. The male is uniformly dull yellow above and buff below. The head and neck are chestnut, with a black crown.
