Wedge-tailed Hillstar - The Wedge-tailed Hillstar is a species of hummingbird in the Trochilidae family. This sexually dimorphic species is found in scrub and woodland at altitudes of 2,600 to 4,000 metres in the Andes of Bolivia and far north-western Argentina. It is threatened by habitat loss. Uniquely among the hillstars, the flanks of the male are deep chestnut, while the underparts of the female are orange-buff.
Ecuadorian Hillstar - The Ecuadorian Hillstar is a species of hummingbird in the Trochilidae family. It is found in grassland, scrub and stunted woodland at altitudes of 3,500 to 5,200 metres in the Andes of Ecuador and far southern Colombia. Uniquely among the hillstars, the males head is mainly bluish-purple.
Andean Hillstar - The Andean Hillstar is a species of hummingbird in the Trochilidae family. It is found in grassland, scrub and woodland in the Altiplano of southern Peru, Bolivia, northern Chile, and north-western Argentina. It often includes the Green-headed Hillstar as a subspecies, but the male of that species has a black stripe to the central underparts, and its upperparts are greener.
White-sided Hillstar - The White-sided Hillstar is a species of hummingbird in the Trochilidae family. It is the southernmost species of hillstar, being found in grassland and scrub at altitudes of 1,200 to 4,000 metres in far southern Bolivia, Chile and western Argentina. It resembles the Andean Hillstar, but the male of that species has a far narrower brown line to the central belly.
Black-breasted Hillstar - The Black-breasted Hillstar is a species of hummingbird in the Trochilidae family. It is found in scrub at altitudes of 3,500 to 4,400 metres in the Andes of central Peru. Unlike the other hillstars, the tail, chest and belly of the male Black-breasted Hillstar are almost entirely black.
