The extinct Black-fronted Parakeet or Tahiti Parakeet was endemic to the Pacific island of Tahiti. Its native name was simply ’ā’ā according to Latham though White gives aa-maha.
The Black-fronted Parakeet is classified as Extinct (EX), there is no reasonable doubt that the last individual has died.
The Black-fronted Parakeet is only know from five specimen in several museum. Two are deposited at Liverpool and one at Tring Museum : they were collected during the voyages of captain James Cook in 1773. the fourth is at the National Mus More
