The Mindanao bleeding-heart dove gets its name from the splash of vivid red on its white breast. The red on this species of bleeding-heart dove is larger and of a darker shade of red than other bleeding-heart doves. It is shy, quiet and very secretive which is why it is rarely encountered. It rarely leaves the ground except for roosting and breeding. When threatened, the Mindanao bleeding-heart dove tends to run away rather than fly. More
