In addition, the pressures on Saunders's gull, all of whose breeding grounds and wintering grounds lie within CHINA, are great indeed and do not look likely to abate in the near future. The breeding ecology of Saunders's gull is a fascinating example of how a species has adapted to the eternal processes of nature but also it rather disturbing testament to what happens when man interferes too drastically in the process. The charismatic Saunders's Gull Larus saundersi is a familiar winter site in South Korea, beating its way over tidal-flats like a miniature harrier in search of prey: crabs, and at some sites, worms. More

Saunders's Gull peak at several sites. In the right weather conditions large numbers of Ancient Murrelets and a few Rhinoceros Auklets move north off Guryongpo. At the end of the month the first migrants, such as Far Eastern Curlews, Hoopoes and Japanese Lesser Sparrowhawks start to arrive. More

in winter, though many Saunders's Gulls visit the north of Kyushu. They will leave comparatively early in the spring, so we sometimes missed their breeding plumage. More
