All of the three Andean Siskins are similar except for the Spinus spinescens nigricauda which has a completely black tail. They are often seen in the wild in small flocks feeding on the ground mostly at an altitude of 1800-3700m. Distributed from Venezuela throughout Colombia to northern Ecuador. In aviculture I have seen them in Europe. They are also kept in North America Aviculture.
