Matsudaira's Storm Petrel

It breeds solely in the Volcano Islands in the north-west Pacific Ocean, and winters in the Indian Ocean. Its status is insufficiently known.

The Matsudaira's Storm Petrel is classified as Data Deficient (DD), inadequate information to make a direct, or indirect, assessment of its risk of extinction.

Like Matsudaira's Storm Petrel, this species breeds off Japan, China and Russia in the far western Pacific and spends the boreal winter in the southern hemisphere off Australia. More

Matsudaira's Storm Petrel eliminated again by the shallower forked tail and the lack of any obvious forewing patch on any of the birds seen. Pale shafts to the primaries do exist on Swinhoe's Storm Petrel but unless extremely close views were obtained it would be normal to expect these NOT to be visible. Dark morph Leach's Storm Petrel O. leucorhoa is the only real concern and the main clue here again is size and tail shape. More
