Mountain Barbet

The Mountain Barbet is a species of bird in the Ramphastidae family. It is found in Indonesia and Malaysia. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and subtropical or tropical moist montanes.

The Mountain Barbet is classified as Least Concern. Does not qualify for a more at risk category. Widespread and abundant taxa are included in this category.

Mountain Barbet is a lower elevation species and more difficult to see than the Golden-naped Barbet. It often calls from tall trees at the bottom of river valleys, especially along the Liwagu Trail. Listen for an insect-like "erz, dee-erz", the call of the Whitehead's Spiderhunter. They occur along the Kiau View Trail, a 20-minute hike from headquarters. More

Blue-winged Leafbird and Mountain Barbet which had eluded us before. The others returned, having seen Whitehead’s Spiderhunter and Bornean Barbet, both called in by Andrew. We then drove down to Km 19 and found the barbet but not the spiderhunter, while the others went down the trail in the reserve. We returned and set-off down the trail but as rain looked imminent and the trail steep, we returned to the centre where birding was surprisingly good in the rain. More
