The Little Black Cormorant is classified as Least Concern. Does not qualify for a more at risk category. Widespread and abundant taxa are included in this category.

The Little Black Cormorant is a small, slim, totally black cormorant with a greenish sheen to the back and a slender grey hooked bill. In the breeding season, adults have fine white flecks on the head and neck and the green tinge becomes more bronze. This species congregates in larger flocks than other cormorants and flies in V-shaped formations. More

Little black cormorants are rarely found far from water. They hunt underwater by rounding up shoals of fish. They are often seen perched on dead branches over water, or on rocks, with wings outstretched drying off. They fly in a V formation, but when settled in an area they usually stay as long as the food source remains. Personality: Good hunter. Likes to be in groups. Associates well with little pied cormorants, egrets, and other water birds. More

The Great Cormorant, the largest of the three local cormorants, is the only species recorded every year, possibly as it is more easily observed in its flight. These birds dive and swim underwater to catch fish and other aquatic animals. They are often seen perching in dead trees, or on banks or dam walls, where they open out their wings to dry their feathers. More

This little black cormorant was one of several sharing the swamp with the ducks and grebes. It kept to the shallows in front of the hide. I think it might have been showing off.
