There are three distinct subspecies. Z. k. kulambangrae is widespread in the New Georgia Group, occurring on Kolombangara, Vonavona, Kohinggo, New Georgia, Vangunu and Nggatokae. Z. k. paradoxus is found only on Rendova and Z. k. tetiparius only on Tetepare.
