It breeds in cultivation, pasture, and open woodland with some trees from eastern Honduras south to northwestern Peru, northern Bolivia and western Brazil

Gray-capped Flycatcher ranges widely in lowlands and foothills throughout much of Panama, but is rarely found in the central region excepting in the Caribbean Canal area (it may be found on trips to Achiote Road).
