It is found in Bhutan, China, India, Myanmar, and Nepal. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and subtropical or tropical moist montane forests. It is becoming rare due to habitat loss.
The Wedge-billed Wren-Babbler is classified as Near Threatened (NT), is close to qualifying for or is likely to qualify for a threatened category in the near future.

Sikkim Wedge-billed Wren-babbler and Beautiful Nuthatch, in outstanding scenery. It ran smoothly, largely due to the expertise and experience of Shashank and the two drivers, although the time allocated to Nameri was severely reduced due to local strikes/ road-blockages. Inevitably some good birds were missed, notably White-winged Duck, Ward’s Trogon and Blyth’s Tragopan – a good reason to go back!
