Rusty-throated Parrotbill Paradoxornis przewalskii 2009 IUCN Red List Category (as evaluated by BirdLife International - the official Red List Authority for birds for IUCN): Vulnerable Justification This species has a small, declining, severely fragmented population, primarily as a result of destruction of temperate forest for timber and conversion to cultivation and pasture. It therefore qualifies as Vulnerable. More

Rusty-throated Parrotbill presently seems to be one of the most difficult Chinese birds to see. Jiuzhaigou is the only place where it has definitely been recorded in the 20th century (Red Data Book Birdlife International), up until at least 1995, but after that records ceased, though birding activity doubtless increased. Small parties were often noted around the higher parts of the park, in thick bamboo stands near the so-called Primeval Forest. More

Rusty-throated Parrotbill up there, but the bamboo it had been recorded in seems to have died off meanwhile, which makes the latter a difficult species to find anywhere on earth. Taking a left fork at the intersection takes you to the Long Lake, also at around 3000m. There is less good forest around there, but more variety of open alpine habitats and transitional zones to forest. More
