Pardusco

The Pardusco is a species of tanager that is endemic to woodland near the timberline in the Andes of central Peru. It is monotypic within the genus Nephelornis. This small olive-brown bird is typically seen in groups, which sometimes join mixed species flocks. It has a small range, but is locally fairly common, and consequently considered to be of least concern by BirdLife International and IUCN.

The Pardusco is classified as Least Concern. Does not qualify for a more at risk category. Widespread and abundant taxa are included in this category.

Pardusco is a proper noun derived from the Spanish adjective pardusco, meaning dark brown. Similar Species Pointed versus hooked bill separates it from any female or juvenile flowerpiercers (Diglossa) that are of similar size and plumage (Ridgely and Tudor 1989, Schulenberg et al. 2007). Pardusco is usually easy. Rufous-browed Hemispingus is time consuming and Bay-vented Cotinga rare but very conspicuous when perched.
