OLR = Old Logging Road (Sargeant & Wall), the only place to enter the wet forest. From Itatingui to the Faz. Katira is a long walk through beautiful but rather quiet shaded cacao forest/plantation. Rio de Janeiro Antbird can be found in the thick vegetation just before the gate and the jacamar is here too. Itatiaia - I can add little to Forrester`s coverage of this site. The Maromba (Jeep) trail is now overgrown and practically impassable. Stay at a hotel in the park; there is cheaper accomodation in the town but you will have to pay each time you enter the park and may have difficulty getting in before 8:00am. More
Jacamar and Rio de Janeiro Antbird, but we chose not to because we had seen most of the additional species that these day trips would have given us on our trip last year. We can't recommend REGUA enough and hopefully it won't be too long before we are able to return. More
