White-crowned Starling (Lamprotornis albicapillus) = French: Spréo à calotte blanche German: Weißscheitel-Glanzstar Spanish: Estornino Coroniblanco Taxonomy: Spreo albicapillus Blyth, 1855, Somalia. Until recently was usually placed in genus Spreo. Smaller birds from N Kenya and adjacent S Ethiopia described as race horrensis; possibly merits recognition, but further study required. The White-crowned Starling is endemic to southern Ethiopa and Somalia. It is found in arid grassland areas, often around cattle pasture and human settlement. The only place where we found this bird was on the Liben plains near Yabello where it was common. The birds behaved a bit like Choughs searchng in the cattle dung for worms and bettles. More
