Peruvian Antpitta appears to be restricted to the eastern slopes of the Andes in Peru and Ecuador. The species originally was described (Chapman 1923) on the basis of a single specimen, of a male, collected at Chaupe, a site in northern Peru north of the Marañón river and not far from the border with Ecuador. It was not reported again until 1978; in that year, and again in 1980, it was rediscovered in northern Peru, not far from Chaupe (Parker et al. 1985). More
Like other Grallaricula, the Peruvian Antpitta is a poorly known inhabitant of Andean forests under intense pressures from human alterations. It is rather strongly patterned for this genus, with a uniformly brown back and distinctive markings on the face and breast. So far as is known, Peruvian Antpitta is restricted to the undergrowth of mature forests, often near riparian areas. More

These sightings were only a short distance away from the cabins you stay in there. The birds responded well to playback a very short time after dawn. More
