good scope views and Chirruping Wedgebills were seemingly everywhere. An unexpected find was a singing Black-eared Cuckoo, a tick for some. A daredevil Yellow-throated Miner landed on the gravel guard on the front of the bus while we were leaving the car park. At Jarvis Lookout near Hawker, a rather steep climb to the top was rewarded with a top-down view of a Grey Butcherbird on a nest and some Inland Thornbills. More

singing providing good scope views and Chirruping Wedgebills were seemingly everywhere. Good numbers of Pied Honeyeaters were present, allowing great views in the top of flowering bushes against the clear blue sky. Lunch was had at Jarvis Lookout near Hawker with two Inland Thornbills foraging in the surrouding native pines. The wind started picking up when we arrived in the Flinders Ranges and by the time we arrived at Stokes Hill conditions were not favourable for finding Short-tailed Grasswren. More

Chirruping Wedgebills are birds of dry, open country with low scattered shrubs. Lignum and saltbush surrounding inland lakes are particularly favoured. Chiming Wedgebills prefer much denser shrubland - they are quite common in W.A. in the coastal shrublands between Shark Bay and Carnarvon. Adult wedgebills appear to occupy permanent territories because they occur in the same places year after year. More
