It is found in Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, The Democratic Republic of the Congo, Côte d'Ivoire, Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Sudan and Uganda. The status of the species is evaluated as Least Concern.
The Dybowski's Twinspot is classified as Least Concern. Does not qualify for a more at risk category. Widespread and abundant taxa are included in this category.
Dybowski's Twinspots was predicted from a hypothesis of the origin of brood-parasitic associations by colonization of new foster species that have parental behavior and habitat similar to their old foster species. Indigobirds (Vidua spp.) now are known to mimic five species and genera of estrildids that are not firefinches (Lagonosticta spp.), their more common foster group. More

that Dybowski's Twinspots Euschistospiza dybowskii that I had observed did not fit the descriptions and illustrations in field guides. Far from having grey flanks with white spots surrounded by rings of black, those I observed were indistinguishable from the male, i.e. jet black flanks with white spots. However, the sexes could easily be determined because only the males had black underbellies (the female is grey). More

rapid development Dybowski's Twinspots try –when allowed - WHAT WE DON’T RECOMMEND - their first breeding attempt when they are less than six months old. Our youngest successful breeding pair was a four months old male and a 3.5-month-old female. This is possibly an adaptation to the conditions in the wild where optimal conditions for raising offspring are rare. In this in this case it is better to breed early in life than never. More
