It is found in Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist montanes and heavily degraded former forest.

Red-crested Cotinga of the high Andes (above right). It incorporates some flying insects into its diet, and snaps both fruit and bugs during short sallies. Most of the "core" cotingids are primarily fruit-eaters.
