Short-tailed Magpie or Short-tailed Green Magpie (Cissa thalassina) is a passerine bird of crow family, Corvidae. It is endemic to montane forests on the southeast Asian islands of Borneo and Java. It dwells in thick vegetation in the mid and upper storeys of forests, and makes only short flights. Uniquely among the members of its genus, the Bornean subspecies jeffreyi has whitish eyes. The nominate subspecies from Java, as well as all other members of the genus, have dark reddish-brown eyes. More

another Short-tailed Green Magpie was noisily active. After breakfast we drove up to Timpohon Gate and the start of the summit trail. A very good sighting for some was two coucals just before the gate – at this altitude and habitat they could only have been Short-toed, probably the first sighting in this area. As the day was sunny with the top of the mountain almost clear of cloud, we had a very pleasant 3 hour stroll up to Km 2. More
