Melodious Lark

The species as a whole has, perhaps, a maximum range of 110,400 km2., but this is something of a tattered web; small, isolated communities are strewn primarily about parts of South Africa , with fewer still in Botswana and Zimbabwe, and have limited opportunites for social interaction with each other.

The Melodious Lark is classified as Near Threatened (NT), is close to qualifying for or is likely to qualify for a threatened category in the near future.

Perhaps more likely is Melodious Lark, though I can find no reference to this species calling from the ground? The Latakoo or melodious lark (Mirafra cheniana) is known to imitate 57 different bird species—even ducks, guineafowl, and bee-eaters—and single males can be distinguished by the set of birds they imitate.
