Mundia elpenor

The bird was endemic to Ascension Island from where it was proved to exist by numerous bones, and Peter Mundy's description to it by a sketch made in 1656. It most likely lived in the near-desert locations in the island and primarily ate Sooty Tern eggs. It is probable that it became extinct after rats became introduced to the island in the 18th century, but may have still lived until the introduction of cats in 1815.

The Mundia elpenor is classified as Extinct (EX), there is no reasonable doubt that the last individual has died.
