Latham's Francolin

The Forest Francolin is a species of bird in the Phasianidae family. It is found in Angola, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Republic of the Congo, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ivory Coast, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Ghana, Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Sudan, Tanzania, Togo, and Uganda.

congensis, and Latham's Francolin, Francolinus lathami, occur in the north-west part of Itombwe in transition forest (6, 9,12,13). The presence of these six species would seem to establish clear links with the Oriental avifauna - links that were broken during, if not earlier than, the Miocene (6).
