The Taiwan Partridge is classified as Near Threatened (NT), is close to qualifying for or is likely to qualify for a threatened category in the near future.
Taiwan Partridge is considered Near-threatened. While formerly widespread at suitable elevation, it has been less frequently recorded in recent years. The main pressures are those on habitat, which is reduced by tree-felling, conversion to agricultural land, and possibly pesticides. see Taiwan Partridge, and Malay Night Heron is also apparently quite common, though we failed to connect. To reach the area, take expressway 3 from Taichung and after about 50km you come to the Linnei/Dolieu intersection. Turn off the expressway and turn right to Linnei. After about 5 minutes turn right at a set of traffic lights just before a 7/11 shop on the left. After about 1km the road forks. Take the left hand fork keeping the river channel on your right. More

We could hear Taiwan Partridge’s loud guru, guru, guru… calls of two birds, in a rising crescendo, coming from the forested hillside immediately behind the research building, so we went to investigate. We had scant hope of seeing one however, because these 28 cm-long birds are among the most secretive and wary birds in Taiwan. More
