Species in the genus Solanum of plants

Solanum betaceum - The tamarillo is native to the Andes of Peru, Chile, Ecuador, Colombia and Bolivia. Today, it is still cultivated in gardens and small orchards for local production.

Solanum cajanumense - Intolerant of heat, frost, or direct sunlight, Solanum cajanumense seems to prefer cloud forest-type growing conditions, which limits it's future agricultural potential. As with most solanaceae, most parts of the plant are toxic, but casana produces and edible, yellow fruit similar in appearance to, but smaller than the closely related tamarillo.

Solanum carchiense - Solanum sodiroi is a species of plant in the Solanaceae family. It is possibly endemic to Ecuador.

Solanum chilliasense - Solanum chilliasense is a species of nightshade that is endemic to Ecuador.

Solanum chrysophyllum - It is endemic to Ecuador. Its status is insufficiently known.

Solanum drymophilum - Solanum ensifolium is a species of plant in the Solanaceae family endemic to Puerto Rico. Commonly known as Erubia, it is nearly extinct due to habitat loss.

Solanum granulosum-leprosum - Solanum granuloso-leprosum is a species of plant in the Solanaceae family. It is endemic to Brazil.

Solanum inaequale - Solanum lanceolatum is a species of nightshade that is endemic to California. It is a shrub that s sometimes grown as an ornamental plant. Its flowers are light purple. All parts of the plants are toxic if eaten.

Solanum lanuginosum - It is endemic to Ecuador, but may be almost extinct due to habitat loss.

Solanum loxense - It is endemic to Ecuador. Its status is insufficiently known.

Solanum melissarum - Solanum melissarum is a species of nightshade that is endemic to Brazil.

Solanum semicoalitum - Solanum luteoalbum is a species of plant in the Solanaceae family.

Solanum sibundoyense - The fruits are edible and have a pleasant acidulous taste. The plant produces some of the largest fruits known in section Pachyphylla. The fruit pulp is sweet, juicy, and pleasant-tasting, with citrus overtones. A purplish layer of soft pulp surrounds the seeds. Fruits ripen slowly, but once ripe thair shelf life is longer than that of the tamarillo. Although a good candidate for trial as a fruit crop, it may be difficult to successfully cultivate this species outside the specialized climate of southern Colombia where it is native. In trials in New Zealand, it was noted that trees cultivated in semi-shade set very large crops of fruit, but plants grown in full sun performed very poorly. The trees were somewhat subject to branch die-back on fruiting branches, and pests like aphids and white flies are attracted to the trees.

Solanum ternifolium - Solanum ternifolium is a species of plant in the Solanaceae family. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist montane forests.
