It is found in Angola, Benin, Cameroon, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ivory Coast, Equatorial Guinea, Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, and Uganda. The genus name is derived from the botanist Turra (1607-1688) of Padua, Italy and arithos, a Greek word meaning flower. The wood of Turraeanthus africanus is traded on the international timber market, where it fetches high prices for high-quality furniture and decorative joinery. However, since the 1960s the volumes exported are very small. Côte d?Ivoire exported about 5000 m³ of logs per year between 1960 and 1974. Ghana exported 3000 m³ of logs in 1998; but only 150 m³ in 2001. More
