Genus Cephalotaxus

Cephalotaxus, commonly called Plum Yew or Cowtail Pine, is a genus of conifers comprising 11 species, treated in either the Cephalotaxaceae, or in the Taxaceae when that family is considered in a broad sense.

Species in the genus Cephalotaxus of plants

Cephalotaxus fortunei - C. fortunei is a shrub or small tree growing to as high as 20 m with a diameter at breast height of about 20 cm. They are usually multi-stemmed with an open and loosely rounded crown.

Cephalotaxus griffithii - Cephalotaxus griffithii, commonly called Griffith's Plum Yew, is a coniferous shub or small tree in the plum yew family. It is endemic to northern India, northern Myanmar and the western Sichuan Province in China.

Hainan cufei - Cephalotaxus hainanensis is a species of plum-yew confined to the island of Hainan, southern China. Cephalotaxus hainanensis has antileukemia activity and is widely used in China.

Cephalotaxus harringtonii - New shoots of C. harringtonia remain green for three years after forming and have ribs at the leaf bases. The buds are green in colour, globular in shape and very small at only 1 mm in length. There is one rank of leaves present on either side of the shoot, and these rise up above it and curve slightly inwards, forming a narrow V-shape somewhat akin to a dove's wings. The ranks are often vertical, but can be more flattened in shaded parts. The leaves are broadly linear in shape and measure about 5 cm long by 0.3 cm wide. They are abruptly pointed at the apex, leathery in texture and a bright matte yellowish-green on the upper-surface. The abaxial surface, or underside of the leaves, shows two broad, pale to silvery stomatal bands.

Cephalotaxus lanceolata - Cephalotaxus lanceolata is a coniferous tree in the plum yew family. It is native to northern Burma and southern China. It is often considered a variety of C. fortunei.

Cephalotaxus latifolia - Cephalotaxus latifolia is a coniferous shub or small tree in the plum yew family. It is native to southern China and is similar in appearance to both C. sinensis and C. harringtonia.

Cephalotaxus mannii - Sometimes the species Cephalotaxus griffithii and Cephalotaxus hainanensis are considered synonyms of this species.

Cephalotaxus oliveri - Cephalotaxus oliveri is a coniferous shub or small tree in the plum yew family. It is native to China and possibly to Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and eastern India.

Cephalotaxus sinensis - Cephalotaxus sinensis is a coniferous shub or small tree in the plum yew family. It is native to central and southern China.
