Cryptocarya bracteolata was collected in Mersing, Johor in 1997. Specimens were deposited at the Forest Research Institute of Malaysia herbarium and the Department of Chemistry, University of Malaya. The bark of C. bracteolata (2.7 kg) was extracted with n-hexane; the solvent was then removed under vacuum. The plant material was moistened with 10% ammonium hydroxide overnight.
