The Beccariophoenix variety with the windows, commonly known as the Giant Windowpane Palm or Windowpane Coconut, used to be considered a variety of this species, but John Dransfield is renaming that variety. It is quite different when a seedling, in having wide, mostly unsplit leafs, wheres the 'madagascariensis' variety has fully split, very stiff upright leaves when young.
