Another study stated that the enamel pigmentation of Sorex is distributed over the whole of the tooth from the enamel surface to the zone of the middle enamel layer, except for some unpigmented micro-areas(2).

In the San Francisco Mountains long-tailed shrews are known from Little Spring (type locality) at about 8000 feet as well as at a few places higher up the mountains (to 11,500 feet).
