These are not to be confused with their cousins, the Indian Triggerfish or Black-finned Triggerfish , which are often mistaken as being black triggerfish within the trade.

The Black triggerfish lives in the reef-associated, marine, depth range 0 - 75 m , usually 0 - 20 m environment.
