Blackfin hogfish

The Blackfin hogfish lives in the reef-associated, marine, depth range 3 - 100 m , usually 3 - 40 m environment.

The Blackfin Hogfish lives on the outer reef and is usually found swimming well above the surface bottom on deep reef crests. The species shows a curiosity towards divers. More

The Blackfin Hogfish is yellow-orange with narrow horizontal white stripes. Adult fish have a broad diagonal black band or blotch across the rear part of the body extending to the lower base of the tail. The black patch is smaller on large males. More

The dorsal portion of the Blackfin Hogfish is orangish-pink, and the ventral body is light yellow. A black irregular spot is present from the dorsal fin to the ventral tail. The black area will become smaller as the fish ages. More

Bodianus loxozonus, the Blackfin Hogfish at about eighteen. The other two are entirely suitable for easygoing fish only systems and reefs lacking mollusks and crustaceans (which they gladly eat); Bodianus anthioides, the Lyretail Hogfish, and Bodianus axillaris, the Axilspot Hogfish. More
