Kashmir Flycatcher

This is an insectivorous species which breeds in the north-west Himalayas in the Kashmir area of Pakistan and India. It is migratory and winters in the hills of central Sri Lanka and the Western Ghats of India.

The Kashmir Flycatcher is classified as Vulnerable (VU), considered to be facing a high risk of extinction in the wild.

The Kashmir Flycatcher, Ficedula subrubra, is a small passerine bird in the flycatcher family Muscicapidae. At one time it was considered to be a subspecies of the Red-breasted Flycatcher, Ficedula parva. Kashmir Flycatcher can be found only and only in Pateka. Machiara National park is located North of Muzzafarabad City. The National Park houses a large number of species, including many near endemics. Unfortunately, the road leading to Machiara is not in a very good condition (as of October 2004). However, the scenic beauty of the Neelum valley is paralleled by no other place in the world. More
